200 pounds plus 2 to go

I weighed myself this morning (I know, I know - a day early) and I've gained two pounds this week! Ugh! I really can't take much more of this. Hopefully by tomorrow morning, it'll all be a figment of my imagination.

Perhaps too much coffee?

  1. Hey,

I read your post on LCF about stalling. Just wanted to encourage you to keep on keeping on. There are way more benefits to eating low carb than merely losing weight.

I say this as someone who started off with 202 lbs to lose, and now after 8 dedicated weeks of Atkins, have only 183.4 lbs left. Like you, I had a nice satisfying loss the first week (~13 lbs), and the rest has trickled off much more slowly: half pound loss/gain/loss, follwed by 3pound drop, repeat until insane (which hasn't taken long).

Please PLEASE PPPLLLEEEAAASSSEEE stick with it. You may need to bump up the carb ladder slightly, or bump up the calories, or bump up the protein---tweaking is good and will teach you about your body's reaction to specific foods. But please, whatever you do, please do not give up and go searching for a "better" way, like I did (my blog is down right now, but as soon as it's back up, my history of dieting should be apparent). STAY THE COURSE.

Also, the suggestion to take measurements is EXCELLENT. Take everywhere you can think of: forehead, neck, above-boobs, at-boobs, below-boobs, above/at/below belly button. Just work your way down and measure, and keep track. I measure every 8 weeks--in fact, am due today! Even our feet can get smaller, if we have enough weight to lose.

Make sure you do not eat too LITTLE. We've been so brainwashed by the calries in/out, weight-watchers brand of eating that sometimes it's hard to actually eat enough food to encourage your metabolism to allow the release of excess fat. If you want to learn more about this, Google search "Gary Taubes" and/or read his book Good Calories, Bad Calories. Also, Dr. Eades at proteinpower.com/drmike has GOOD STUFF related to calories, metabolism, and Gary's research.

Make sure you sleep as much as you can---good quality sleep. And drink water. And take plenty of vitamins---most of us obese people have poor nutritional status. Improving that status goes a long way toward communicating with your body that now is a time of HEALTH and PLENTY, therefore the excess fat is no longer necessary. (It's for this reason that consistency with eating low carb---what you eat, how much you eat, etc.---can make such an important difference to your success.)

Keep it up, and get excited for the changes that are happening and the changes yet to come, in your body! ;-)

    Best,
    Just4Me

  2. Thank you for your comment! I am definitely not giving up. I'm in this to win this. No matter how long it takes, I will get there.

And I really do need to start taking measurements. I'm sure it'll boost my willpower a bit too to see me lose some inches.

And, congratulations to you on your 19 pounds lost! That's awesome. Keep it up! It's nice to know that we're going through the same thing and I'm not alone.

Oh and it would be completely awesome if my feet got smaller! :)

    Thanks again for your comment!
